Dropout to 6 figures: How to reinvent your career - I Will Teach You To Be Rich

What is Julie's current job and how does she feel about it?

Julie is the CEO and co-founder of Methodology, and she loves her job. She feels that it is her dream job at this stage in her life, as it combines her passion for helping people, food, and a flexible lifestyle. She is grateful for the foundation that she built in her previous jobs and feels confident that she can have her dream job at any given point in her career, even if it changes over time.

What was going through Julie's mind when she decided to leave law school after the first year?

Julie felt like a failure and in a negative feedback loop because she didn't like what she was doing and was bad at it. She was unhappy with her decision to go to law school and wanted to leave as soon as possible to pay off any debt and switch careers. She was also afraid to admit her mistake to her friends and family, as she had always been a high achiever and student body president at Stanford. However, she was grateful for the support of her friends, like Ramit, who helped her through the decision-making process.

What made you realize that a dream job could change over time and what you were looking for now was different than when you started your career?

As I got older, I got to know myself better and became more in tune with things that I really value in life and want to get out of life. So, what my dream job is became more nuanced and evolved along with that.

What has it been like for you to carry the dream job program with you throughout your career?

It's been so helpful because I've gone from working for someone else to building my own company. The dream job has evolved to become a framework not just for what I want to do day-to-day and what my job does to empower me in other areas of my life, but also for having a clear vision of what I want and working backwards to get there.
